Thoracic Skeletal Muscle and Exercise Capacity in Adults With Congenital Heart Disease: A Cross‐Sectional Imaging Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The growing population of adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) faces lifelong morbidities despite advancements in medical and surgical care. Sarcopenia, characterized by loss of muscle mass and strength, is linked to increased disability, poor quality of life and mortality.

Aged Zebrafish as a Spontaneous Model of Cardiac Valvular Disease

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 12, December 2025.
Natural ageing in zebrafish results in spontaneous development of valvular degeneration in both the atrioventricular (AV) and bulboventricular (BV) valves. Aged zebrafish valves are larger and exhibit cystic regions, immune cell infiltration, early osteoblast differentiation and increased regurgitation.

Antimicrobial prescribing guidelines for horses in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 103, Issue 12, Page 781-889, December 2025.
The growing problem of antimicrobial resistance also affects equine veterinarians with increasing frequency. Antimicrobial stewardship and responsible prescribing are essential for a future in which effective antimicrobials are available, as it is unlikely that new antimicrobials will become available for use in horses.

Clinical, Echocardiographic, and Socioeconomic Predictors of Progression and Outcomes in Patients With Moderate Aortic Stenosis

open access: yesEchocardiography, Volume 42, Issue 12, December 2025.
A comprehensive model integrating clinical, imaging, and socioeconomic data improves prediction of disease progression and outcomes in moderate aortic stenosis, supporting a shift toward personalized assessment and management. ABSTRACT Background Despite increased awareness of its clinical consequences, personalized risk stratification in patients with

Comparative Value of Echocardiography vs. Right Heart Catheterization in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesEchocardiography, Volume 42, Issue 12, December 2025.
Adding echocardiographic parameters (right atrial reservoir strain [RAsr] and E/e′) to a basic model of demographics and comorbidities significantly improved discrimination of cardiovascular (CV) outcomes (area under the ROC curve) among decompensated HFpEF patients.
