Beyond Brightening Low-light Images

International Journal of Computer Vision, 2021
Images captured under low-light conditions often suffer from (partially) poor visibility. Besides unsatisfactory lightings, multiple types of degradation, such as noise and color distortion due to the limited quality of cameras, hide in the dark. In other words, solely turning up the brightness of dark regions will inevitably amplify pollution.

Image correlation at low light levels

Optics Letters, 1985
Low-light-level input images are cross correlated with a classical intensity reference image that is stored in computer memory. Experimental measurements of the correlation signal, obtained using a two-dimensional, photon-counting detector and position-computing electronics, are reported.

Image classification at low light levels

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1986
At low light levels, a two-dimensional photon-counting detector may be employed to provide an estimate of the cross-correlation between an input image and a set of reference images stored in computer memory. Recent experiments1,2 have demonstrated that in many cases, a small number of detected photoevents is sufficient to yield reliable image ...

The influence of low light level ICCD image on low light level and infrared image fusion

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
The fusion of low light level and infrared images can synthesize the advantages of low light level imaging and infrared imaging, to make the details of the scene and targets richer. The quality of low light level and infrared images are the prerequisites to ensure the quality of fused image.

Image enhancement for extremely low light conditions

2014 11th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal Based Surveillance (AVSS), 2014
In this paper, a novel methodology is proposed for contrast enhancement and noise reduction in very noisy data with low dynamic range on images captured by surveillance camera under extremely low light condition. For the initial noise reduction, a motion adaptive temporal filtering based on the Kalman filter is employed.

Semantically-guided low-light image enhancement

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2020
Abstract Recently, extensive research efforts have been made on low-light image enhancement. Many novel models have been proposed, such as the ones based on the Retinex theory, multiple exposure fusion, and deep neural networks. However, current models do not directly consider the semantic information in the modeling process.
