Low-profile lenses for ultrasound surgery
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1999Several flat lens designs have been simulated that focus a planar transducer at various depths and angular deflections. The use of flat lenses with planar phased arrays to create multiple focus patterns has also been explored. The simulations have shown that the discrete element size is practical to machine.

A lens loaded ferrite backed sinuous antenna is demonstrated where the metallic cavity side wall is eliminated to increase its operational bandwidth. The sinuous aperture forms the fundamental radiator and is loaded with an electrically small lens in order to redirect the power towards the upper hemisphere.
