Text-to-speech for low-resource systems
2002 IEEE Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing., 2004This article describes the restrictions and requirements low-resource systems to impose on text-to-speech (TTS) software. The most important point is available memory size, but computing time and implementation issues are discussed as well. For each restriction, one or more solutions are presented.

Neonatal Resuscitation in Low-Resource Settings
Clinics in Perinatology, 2016Almost one quarter of newborn deaths are attributed to birth asphyxia. Systematic implementation of newborn resuscitation programs has the potential to avert many of these deaths as basic resuscitative measures alone can reduce neonatal mortality.

Informatics Education in Low-Resource Settings
2013Developing countries have the burden of acute and chronic diseases with the greatest health disparities. There is also a shortfall of more than four million healthcare workers worldwide, and the proportion is higher in less economically viable countries where the lack of proper trained healthcare workers is also compromised by the migration and ...

Incidental Findings in Low‐Resource Settings
Hastings Center Report, 2018AbstractMuch new global genetic research employs whole genome sequencing, which provides researchers with large amounts of data. The quantity of data has led to the generation and discovery of more incidental or secondary findings and to vigorous theoretical discussions about the ethical obligations that follow from these incidental findings.

Ductal Stenting in Low-Resource Environments
Pediatric CardiologyDuct-dependent pulmonary circulation has traditionally been addressed by the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas shunts (BTTS). Recently, catheter-based alternatives such as ductal stenting have emerged as a particularly advantageous option, especially in resource-constrained settings.

Abdominal Pregnancy in a Low-Resource Setting
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2015Abdominal pregnancies are rare types of ectopic pregnancies with high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity when encountered anywhere in the world. Combining such high-risk pregnancy with the limitations found in a low-resource setting can lead to increased complications, which can be more difficult to manage.A 21-year-old woman, gravida 2 para ...

Management of infertility in low resource countries
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2009Infertility is a global problem, but the highest prevalence is in low resource countries, particularly in sub‐Saharan Africa where infection‐related tubal damage is the commonest cause. Most infections causing tubal damage are preventable and assisted conception can treat the infertility. However, assisted conception, despite being available for nearly
