Calculation of below-grade residential heat loss: low-rise residential building

open access: yes, 1987
A simple calculation makes it possible to determine the maximum rate of below-grade heat loss from a basement and the total heat loss over the heating season. The procedure accounts for the variation of below-grade heat loss during the year. This is a significant factor in the house heat balance.

3D Interconnected Zn‐Ion Pathways Through Anionic Nanochannels Surrounding Bacterial Cellulose Nanofibers by Repetitive Interfacial Assembly for Aqueous Zn‐Ion Battery Separators

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A repetitive interfacial assembly method is introduced to prepare a nanofibrillar separator with interconnected 3D anionic nanochannels for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. The carboxylate‐rich nanochannels promote enhancements of Zn2+ ion transport and charge transfer at the electrode surface, and the 3D nanostructured hydrogels contribute to homogeneous ...

Disorder‐Driven Fast Na+ Transport: From Crystalline to Amorphous Networks in the Mixed‐Anion NaTaOxCl6−2x Oxychlorides

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Oxygen substitution in NaTaOxCl6‐2x drives structural evolution from isolated [TaCl6]– octahedra, through oxygen‐bridged [Ta2OCl10]2– dimers, toward extended trans‐[TaO2Cl4]3– chain‐like arrangements. At intermediate compositions, zero‐dimensional corner‐sharing motifs are proposed to create a flexible, disordered framework that peaks ionic ...

Asymmetric Multi‐Site Ion Exchange in Porous Carbon Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A lognormal‐distribution 2D EXSY NMR framework uncovers the full spectrum of ion dynamics in hierarchical porous carbons, bridging fast surface exchange and confined in‐pore transport—establishing structure–transport relationships for next‐generation energy storage, gas storage, and ion removal materials.

Predictability of time-resolved cross-envelope pressures driving natural infiltration in low-rise residential buildings

open access: yesIndoor Environments
Natural infiltration in residential buildings has two major drivers: indoor-outdoor temperature differences (stack effect) and wind effect. While residential infiltration models are long established, their validity has not been evaluated with ...

Streamlined V3.5+ Electrolyte Production by Leveraging Chemical and Catalytic Reductions

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A tuned catalytic process for V3.5+ electrolyte production is shown to streamline the conventional chemical‐to‐catalytic sequence by extending catalysis into the rate‐determining reduction regime. This study shows that initiating catalysis in this regime shortens the overall production time by 67% based on rigorous thermodynamic and kinetic analysis of

Kenyan Farmers' Policy Priorities During Economic Crisis and Stability: Insights From a Best‐Worst Scaling Experiment

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amid rising food and fertilizer prices, understanding farmers' policy preferences is critical for effective crisis response. We use best‐worst scaling experiment to assess Kenyan mobile‐owning crop farmers' preferences for government support under high and normal price scenarios.
