Evaluating the role of aggregate gradation on cracking performance of asphalt concrete for thin overlays [PDF]
Thin asphalt concrete overlays are a maintenance technique that mainly restore the functional properties of pavements. One of the main issues in thin overlays is reflective cracking that can cause early deterioration and reduce their service life.

Enhancement of Low Temperature Toughness in Bulk Nanostructured Metals
Brittle-to-ductile transitions (BDT) in fine-grained Ti added ultra-low carbon steels were investigated. Temperature dependences of impact absorbed energy were measured using specimens with grain sizes of 0.4, 2, 9 and 70µm of which the grain sizes were controlled by heat treatments after five cycles of accumulative roll-bonding process.

Plasticity of nanocrystalline zirconia ceramics and composites [PDF]
The deformation strain rate of nanocrystalline Y-TZP shows an increase by a factor 4 if the grain size decreases from 200 to 100 nm. Real superplastic deformation (strain rate > 10−4 s−1) is observed in these materials at relative low temperature (1100 ...

Development of Molybdenum Alloy with High Toughness at Low Temperatures
The irradiation embrittlement and recrystallization embrittlement of molybdenum and its alloys are major problems for their application to plasma facing components in the future fusion reactors. In order to overcome the problems, the basic idea of alloy design and microstructure control was proposed, and a TiC dispersed molybdenum alloy was developed ...
