Discovery of a Novel DNMT1 Inhibitor with Improved Efficacy in Treating β‐Thalassemia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Context of Research: β‐thalassemia affects millions worldwide. DNMT inhibitors are effective HbF‐inducers that benefit patients with β‐thalassemia. Existing DNMT inhibitors are not approved for β‐thalassemia treatment due to dose‐limiting toxicity. What We Find: DMT207 traps DNMT1 into helix‐kinked inactive conformation and enhances its interaction with

Acute Kidney Injury: Risk Factors and Management Challenges in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal Nephrology, 2020
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a major global health problem, occurring in >13 million people and responsible for >2.3 million deaths every year, 85% of which are in developing countries. Although the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) set a goal of

Single‐Cell Morphomechanics of Prostate Cancer‐Associated Fibroblasts Identifies Distinct Features Associated with Patient Outcome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in prostate tumors exhibit distinct morphomechanical traits vs normal fibroblasts, including greater stiffness and volume, more elongated stress fibres, and larger and more elongated nuclei. These features, quantified through imaging and real‐time deformability cytometry, correlate with patient outcomes and can be ...

Enhanced Photocatalytic Wastewater Purification and Bacterial Elimination via Copper Ion Irradiation‐Induced Modification of BiOCl

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a copper ion irradiation method to achieve the modification function of BiOCl. By using high‐energy ion beams to introduce impurity ions inside the material, the intrinsic electric field of BiOCl is optimized, promoting the separation of photogenerated carriers and enhancing the photocatalytic activity.

Beyond Labels: Exploring Consumer Preferences for Plant‐Based Meat Labeling Policies

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Whether meat‐related terms should be permitted on the labels of plant‐based meat alternatives is hotly debated. Utilizing survey data featuring a discrete choice experiment, we examine consumer responses to plant‐based meat alternatives under three labeling scenarios: no restrictions; a ban on meat‐related terms; and a requirement for a ...
