Solvent‐Free Bonding Mechanisms and Microstructure Engineering in Dry Electrode Technology for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dry electrode technology revolutionizes battery manufacturing by eliminating toxic solvents and energy‐intensive drying. This work details two promising techniques: dry spray deposition and polymer fibrillation. How their unique solvent‐free bonding mechanisms create uniform microstructures for thicker, denser electrodes, boosting energy density and ...

Measurement of thin films using very long acoustic wavelengths

open access: yes, 2013
A procedure for measuring material thickness by means of necessarily-long acoustic wavelengths is examined. The approach utilizes a temporal phase lag caused by the impulse time of wave momentum transferred through a thin layer that is much denser than ...

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Pyrolysis of Low-Density Polyethylene

open access: yes, 2017
Pyrolysis of low-density polyethylene in an innovative batch pilot plant, with a hydraulic guard ensuring a safe process, was performed. The influence of process temperature on yield, distribution and composition of products was investigated. The oil/waxes were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry, while pyrolysis gas was monitored ...

Droplet Triboelectrification on Liquid‐Like Polymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates the triboelectrification of water droplets on polymer brush‐coated surfaces exhibiting minimal contact line pinning. Such surfaces enable the systematic study of electrode patterning and controlled changes in droplet contact area.
