Hyperthermia and Low Dose-Rate Irradiation

Radiology, 1978
Hyperthermia combined with 60Co gamma irradiation was studied using V79 hamster cells cultured in vitro. Modest hyperthermia (41 degrees C for 6 hrs.) enhanced the cell killing produced by acute exposure to radiation. The same treatment enhanced the effect of low dose-rate irradiation (200 rads/hr.) even more.

Comparison of high dose-rate and low dose-rate dose distributions for vaginal cylinders

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1995
The identification of appropriate high dose-rate parameters required to produce a "uniform" dose distribution on the surface of a vaginal cylinder. The high dose-rate dose distribution is then compared to the traditional low dose-rate dose distributions obtained with Burnett cylinders.Dose distributions were calculated for 2, 3, and 3.5 cm diameter ...

Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity of PNP Transistor at Extreme-Low Dose Rates

2018 18th European Conference on Radiation and Its Effects on Components and Systems (RADECS), 2018
The ELDRS of PNP transistors were investigated at dose rates of 10, 5, 1, and 0.1mrad(Si)/s and dose rate 100rad(Si)/s, while the evaluation of the ELDRS under the high and dose rate are performed with the Temperature-Switching-Approach Irradiation. The estimated results using Temperature-Switching-Approach were in good agreement with the experimental ...

Interstitial radiotherapy at low dose-rate

The British Journal of Radiology, 1972
I should like to draw your attention to a small error in the recent review article in the British Journal of Radiology by Hall (1972). The mathematical expression for the Paterson “rule of thumb” correction to give an effect equivalent to 6,000 rad in seven days should be: where d is the dose-rate.

Total Dose Effects at Low Dose Rates

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1986
The effects of irradiation at very low dose rates are discussed for hardened CMOS devices from two different manufacturers. For some devices, rate effects were important even at dose rates of 0.04 rad(Si)/s, so that even lower dose rates may be required to characterize their behavior for some applications.

Low dose-rate afterloading techniques: Choice of dose and time

Clinical Radiology, 1982
The advantages of remote afterloading are reviewed. Criteria for choosing source strength and dose-rate are formulated and the Cumulative Radiation Effect (CRE) used as a guide to correct treatment time for both changes in dose-rate and the effect of gaps in treatment.

Dose Reduction Low Pulse-Rate Fluoroscopy

Radiology, 1972
Dose reduction low pulse-rate fluoroscopy may be accomplished by integrating a magnetic video disk recorder into an x-ray system. Playback of the stored television image between x-ray pulses results in a flicker-free continuous image with actual dose reduction ranging from 2 to 60 times, depending on the pulse rate used.

Low dose-rate irradiation of multicell spheroids

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1978
The effectiveness of irradiation at 88 rad/hr was studied in multicell spheroids of three sizes. Survival curves for all three spheroid populations (including a population initially containing a significant number of hypoxic cells) were nearly identical at this dose-rate. Attempts to determine the mechanism(s) responsible for the unexpected sensitivity

Low dose rate teletherapy and tumour response

Australasian Radiology, 1993
SUMMARY Tumour responses in 25 patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer, treated on an experimental fractionated low dose rate (FLDR) teletherapy program are reported. Treatment was given at dose rates ranging from 1.8 to 3 Gy/h to a range of total doses from 32–38 Gy, with palliative intent.
