Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Speckle‐Engineered Upconversion Amplification in Nanoemulsion‐Templated Hydrogel Microdomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion‐confined PEGDA microdomes generate speckle‐like excitation fields that strongly amplify upconversion luminescence upon dehydration, enabling filter‐free visible readout with reversible on–off switching. DMD‐based lithography yields scalable, shape‐programmable arrays for moisture‐responsive displays and optical encryption.

The Role of Ultra‐Thin Buffer Layers for Achieving Ultra‐Low Dark Currents in Single‐Component Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, SubNc single‐component organic photodiodes (SC‐OPDs) are investigated, which achieve highly competitive performance metrics, including high EQE, ultra‐low JD, and high specific detectivity (D*). This study emphasizes the critical role of an organic buffer layer in studying the interface energetics and effects to achieve state‐of‐the‐art ...

Spatially Modulated Morphotropic Phase Boundaries in a Compressively Strained Multiferroic Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The coexisting rhombohedral‐like (R′, MA) and tetragonal‐like (T′, MC) monoclinic phases in compressively strained bismuth ferrite thin films exhibit exceptional piezoelectric and magnetic properties. While previous studies have largely focused on probing the morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs) comprising ordered R′/T′ twins, their self ...

Engineering Intelligent Graphene Oxide‐Cellulose Membranes: Suppressing Thermal Runaway for a Safer Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel thermos‐responsive hydroxypropyl cellulose/graphene oxide (HPC/GO) composite membrane is fabricated for reversible temperature‐gated ion transport in aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. Enabled by LCST‐driven structural transition, unimpeded ion diffusion at room temperature delivers high capacity, while elevated temperature suppresses transport; full ...

Optimal Low-Earth-Orbit-Geostationary-Earth-Orbit Intermediate Acceleration Orbit Transfer

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1997
Summary: The problem of minimum-time orbit transfer using intermediate acceleration is analyzed using both precise integration and averaging. Continuous constant accelerations of the order of \(10^{-2}g\) are considered for applications using nuclear propulsion upper stages.

The Radiation Environment in Low-Earth Orbit

Radiation Research, 1997
The radiation environment in low-Earth orbit is a complex mixture of galactic cosmic radiation, particles of trapped belts and secondary particles generated in both the spacecraft and Earth's atmosphere. Infrequently, solar energetic particles are injected into the Earth's magnetosphere and can penetrate into low-Earth orbiting spacecraft.

Low Earth Orbit

2020
Low Earth orbit or LEO will be covered to a greater extent in this book than other types of space systems for a multitude of reasons. The most important to me is that as space becomes more reachable and feasible for varying organizations to operate within, that accessibility will begin at LEO first.

Inter-satellite ranging in the Low Earth Orbit

2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP), 2016
Many satellite systems require knowledge about inter-satellite distances. Inter-satellite links provide direct connectivity between satellites and may be used for ranging, while they remove the need of dedicated hardware. This paper addresses inter-satellite ranging at the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) using S-Band signals. We take the requirements from recent
