To low earth orbit and beyond [PDF]

open access: possibleIEEE Spectrum, 2014
NASA has found itself curiously earthbound of late. Since it retired the space shuttles in 2011, the U.S. space agency has had to send astronauts to the International Space Station aboard Russian rockets.

Precise Autonomous Orbit Control in Low Earth Orbit

AIAA/AAS Astrodynamics Specialist Conference, 2012
This paper analyses the problem of the autonomous absolute orbit control of a space- craft in low Earth orbit using different on-board feedback control systems. Three types of control are compared. The first implements an analytical control algorithm. The second and third controllers considered are the linear and the quadratic optimum regulator from

Orbital debris environment for spacecraft in low earth orbit [PDF]

open access: possibleOrbital Debris Conference: Technical Issues andFuture Directions, 1990
Modeling and measurement results used in formulating an environment model that can be used for the engineering design of spacecraft are reviewed. Earth-based and space-based sensors are analyzed and it is noted that the effects of satellite breakups can be modeled to predict a uncatalogued population, if the nature of the breakup is understood.

Low Earth Orbit

2020
Low Earth orbit or LEO will be covered to a greater extent in this book than other types of space systems for a multitude of reasons. The most important to me is that as space becomes more reachable and feasible for varying organizations to operate within, that accessibility will begin at LEO first.
