Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (Low-GWP AREP)

open access: yes, 2012
In response to environmental concerns raised by the use of high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) launched an industry-wide cooperative research program, AHRI Low-GWP Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (Low-GWP AREP), to identify and evaluate promising alternative ...

Performance comparison of pressure swing adsorption and amine‐based absorption for synthesis gas purification

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Comparison of PSA and amine‐based absorption for syngas purification shows that PSA offers lower energy intensity, global warming potential, and minimum selling price, making it a more sustainable option. However, absorption achieves higher syngas purity. A GREENSCOPE‐based multi‐criteria assessment guides optimal process selection.

The impact of a northern peatland on the earth’s radiative budget: sustained methane emission versus sustained carbon sequestration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Northern peatlands sequester carbon and emit methane, and thus have both cooling and warming impacts on the climate system through their influence on atmospheric burdens of CO2 and CH4.

Landscape of Research on Accounting Scope 3 Emissions: A Review of Methodologies and Data

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Scope 3 emissions have been proposed as a critical metric for evaluating corporate carbon footprint, identifying emission sources, and developing mitigation solutions. Yet, widespread corporate reporting of Scope 3 emissions remains limited, highlighting a critical gap in both research and practice.

Exploring the Environmental Sustainability of Primary Al-Air Batteries for Long-Term Energy Storage Applications. [PDF]

open access: yesChemSusChem
An exploratory life cycle assessment compares aluminum–air batteries with gaseous and liquefied hydrogen for long‐term energy storage. The results reveal strong trade‐offs between climate benefits, resource burdens, and system efficiency, highlighting key hot spots and showing how decarbonized smelting and circular material flows can improve the ...

A Social Entrepreneurship Perspective of De‐Carbonising the Footprint through Recycling Compensation: A Case Study of the NGO Madre Coraje

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research analyses the carbon footprint of the NGO Madre Coraje, using an integrated methodology that combines the calculator provided by REAS (Red de Economía Alternativa y Solidaria) Navarra and the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). It quantifies emissions across the three scopes of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, evaluating both direct and ...

TERA- A Tool for Aero-engine Modelling and Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
One of the distinguishing features of the civil aero-engine market is its high competitiveness. The costs and risks associated with new projects are such that the difference between two apparently equally attractive options could result in success from

Carbon emission assessment of tunnel infrastructures: From construction to operation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study develops a lifecycle carbon accounting framework for tunnel infrastructures, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and dismantling. Applied to a subsea tunnel case, the framework reveals the carbon emission distribution among four typical tunnel types and highlights potential carbon offset methods for low‐carbon tunnel ...
