Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Evaluation of low ligation and high ligation procedures of varicocele.

open access: yesJournal of the College of Physicians and Surgeons--Pakistan : JCPSP, 2003
To describe the mode of presentation of varicocele and to compare the low ligation (Inguinal approach/Ivanissevich's procedure) and high ligation (Retroperitoneal approach/modified Palomo's procedure) of varicocele repair regarding efficacy and postoperative complications.Institutional-based randomized comparative clinical trial. This study was ...

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Directed assembly of DNA molecules via simultaneous ligation and digestion

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2007
DNA ligation is a routine laboratory practice, yet the yield of the desired product is often very low due to competing off-pathway reactions. The sensitivity of subsequent manipulations (e.g., selection via bacterial transformation) often obviates the ...

Timing of surgical ligation and morbidities in very low birth weight infants

open access: yesMedicine, 2017
The present study examined whether early patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) surgical ligation at ≤2 weeks of life was associated with increased morbidities and mortality in very low birth weight infants (VLBWIs) who were diagnosed with hemodynamically significant (hs) PDA.

Endoscopic band ligation is safe despite low platelet count and high INR

open access: yesHepatology International, 2023
Abstract Background Prophylactic endoscopic band ligation (EBL) is used to prevent variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis. The association of thrombocytopenia, high INR (international normalized ratio) and liver dysfunction with the risk of procedure-related bleeding (PRB) remains ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Comparative Effect of Cecal Ligation and Colostomy on Nitrogen Utilization in Chickens Fed Low Protein or Urea-Supplemented Low Protein Diets.

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2003
A study was carried out to investigate nitrogen metabolism in response to cecal ligation and colostomy in chickens. We used colostomized plus ceca-ligated chickens fed a low protein diet or a low protein diet supplemented with urea.

Ligation tunes protein reactivity in an ancient haemoglobin: kinetic evidence for an allosteric mechanism in Methanosarcina acetivorans protoglobin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Protoglobin from Methanosarcina acetivorans (MaPgb) is a dimeric globin with peculiar structural properties such as a completely buried haem and two orthogonal tunnels connecting the distal cavity to the solvent. CO binding to and dissociation from MaPgb
