Low Mass Detectors

2020
This chapter reviews the properties of several low-pressure gaseous detectors, multiwire chambers, multistep counters and the Tracking Range and Energy Chamber developed during the few years. The low pressure operation mechanism of detectors like multiwire proportional chambers and multistep chambers is characterized by a rapid avalanche growth and ...

Low Thermal Mass Liquid Chromatography

Analytical Chemistry, 2009
A novel technique, low thermal mass liquid chromatography (LTMLC), is introduced in this study. The use of an LTM assembly that utilizes the principle of resistive wire heating and a temperature sensor to accurately deliver unprecedented heating (up to 1800 degrees C/min) or cooling (100 to approximately 200 degrees C/min) rates is reported.

Low mass stars

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1994
Low mass stars contribute an important fraction to the mass of our Galaxy. Due to the faintness of these stars a direct investigation of their space distribution and kinematics can be carried out only in the immediate solar neighbourhood. This fact emphasizes the importance of the “Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars” (CNS3) as a probe of the stellar ...

Ultra-low mass drift chambers

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2013
Abstract We present a novel low mass drift chamber concept, developed in order to fulfill the stringent requirements imposed by the experiments for extremely rare processes, which require high resolutions (order of 100–200  keV/c) for particle momenta in a range (50–100 MeV/c) totally dominated by the multiple scattering contribution.

Mass spectrometry at low and high mass

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 1997
The introduction of novel methods as well as expanding applications to diverse areas highlight truly impressive progress in mass spectrometry. These developments are illustrated here by two seemingly different areas of research: new methods designed for the determination of isotopic enrichment and novel ionization methods; and mass analyzers which have

Very Low Mass Stars

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1987
Very low mass (VLM) stars, which we define here somewhat arbitrarily as those with masses ;$ 0.3 M 0' pose some of the more interesting problems in stellar astrophysics. The physics of their envelopes and atmospheres are more complicated and their structures less well modeled than their more massive counterparts.
