The self-similarity theory of high pressure torsion

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2016
By analyzing the problem of high pressure torsion (HPT) in the rigid plastic formulation, we show that the power hardening law of plastically deformed materials leads to self-similarity of HPT, admitting a simple mathematical description of the process ...

Research Progress on Thermophysical Properties and Convection Heat Transfer Enhancement of Molten Salts

open access: yesEnergies
Molten salts are essential heat transfer and storage media in high-temperature applications such as Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), owing to their high boiling points, low vapor pressures, and excellent thermal stability.

Coronae of Zero/Low-metal, Low-mass Stars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract Recent theoretical studies suggest the existence of low-mass, zero-metal stars in the current universe. To study the basic properties of the atmosphere of low-mass first stars, we perform one-dimensional magnetohydrodynamical simulations for the heating of coronal loops on low-mass stars with various metallicities.

Photometric mass estimation and the stellar mass–halo mass relation for low mass galaxies

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2022
ABSTRACT We present a photometric halo mass estimation technique for local galaxies that enables us to establish the stellar mass–halo mass (SMHM) relation down to stellar masses of 105 M⊙. We find no detectable differences among the SMHM relations of four local galaxy clusters or between the cluster and field relations and we find ...

Low bone mass in microscopic colitis

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology, 2011
Background Microscopic colitis presents with similar symptoms to classic inflammatory bowel diseases. Osteoporosis is a common complication of Crohn's disease but there are no data concerning bone metabolism in microscopic colitis.

Study of Mg–Al–Ca magnesium alloy ameliorated with designed Al8Mn4Gd phase

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2020
To investigate the effect of Al8Mn4Gd phase on microstructural and mechanical properties of Mg–Al–Ca magnesium alloy, two Mg–2.5Al2Ca and Mg–2.5Al2Ca-0.1Al8Mn4Gd alloys were designed and compared in this work.

The New Plastic Flow Machining Process for Producing Thin Sheets

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
A new severe plastic deformation (SPD) process called plastic flow machining (PFM) was recently proposed to produce thin sheets with gradient structures.

Evolutionary effects of mass loss in low-mass stars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1981
AbstractThe effects of mass loss on the evolution of low-mass stars (actual mass smaller than 1.4 Mʘ) are reviewed. The case of globular cluster stars is discussed in some detail, and it is shown that evolutionary theory sets quite precise limits to the mass-loss rate in population II red giants.

Is the initial mass function of low surface brightness galaxies dominated by low-mass stars? [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2004
The rotation curves of low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies suggest that they possess significantly higher mass-to-light (M/L) ratios than their high surface brightness counterparts, indicating that LSB galaxies may be dark matter dominated. This interpretation is hampered by the difficulty of disentangling the disc and dark halo contributions from ...
