A method and metric for quantitatively defining low probability of detection

IEEE Military Communications Conference. Proceedings. MILCOM 98 (Cat. No.98CH36201), 2002
The lack of a low probability of detection (LPD) waveform is often cited as one of the criteria against the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) communications systems in the tactical military environment. However, there is rarely any quantitative evidence given to support this understandable qualitative assertion.

Detection of multiple access low-probability-of-intercept networks

Proceedings of TCC'94 - Tactical Communications Conference, 2002
Increased demands for highly connective, yet covert, communications in the tactical battlefield have fueled the development of so-called multiple access low-probability-of-intercept (MALPI) networks. Although there have been a number of research efforts regarding the design of MALPI networks, detectability analyses are typically carried out for a ...

Bounds for Low Probability of Detection for Underwater Acoustic Communication

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2016
Most military underwater activities require stealth operations, and hydroacoustic transmissions might temper the mission. For this reason, military underwater acoustic transmission aims for low probability of detection (LPD). LPD communication systems are characterized by low transmission power and reception at low signal-to-noise power ratio (SNPR ...

Covert/Stealth/Low Probability of Detection Communications and QKD

2019
This chapter is devoted to covert communications, also known as low probability of detection/intercept, as well as stealth communications, and how they can improve secret-key rate for QKD applications. The chapter starts with brief introduction to covert communications, followed by the description of their differences with respect to steganography. One

Performance Analysis of Signal Pattern Reducing Techniques for Low Probability of Detection

2019 IEEE 90th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2019-Fall), 2019
Ad-hoc flexibly deployable networks destined for tactical military or civilian applications often suffer from poor synchronization which may lead to unreliable communication. Quasi-Synchronous (QS) CDMA employing Loosely Synchronous (LS) codes allows weak synchronization due to the Zero-Correlation Zone of the code's correlation functions.

Low probability of detection communications-LPD waveform design and detection techniques

MILCOM 91 - Conference record, 2002
The author defines six typical conventional and low probability of detection (LPD) waveforms and analyzes them against seven detection techniques. Simplified models are presented as examples of each technique and approximate sensitivities derived. These provide a general approach to the designing of waveforms that successfully resist detection.

Tracking manoeuvring targets with a low probability of detection in clutter

IEE Proceedings F Radar and Signal Processing, 1990
A new technique for tracking manoeuvering targets with a low probability of detection in a cluttered environment is presented. It generalises the (N,M) scan bifurcating filter of Kenefic (1981) so that the life of track branches which do not associate with plots is extended, resulting in improved tracking of targets with a low probability of detection.
