A comparison of methods to predict ovulation day, menstrual cycle characteristics and variability in professional female soccer players

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 2, Page 390-402, 1 February 2026.
Abstract This study aimed to compare three methods of predicting ovulation day: (1) a positive urinary luteinising hormone test (LH), (2) a sustained rise in salivary progesterone above critical difference (SP), and (3) a countback regression equation (CB), to determine variability in the menstrual cycle (MC) lengths and reproductive hormone ...

Cholesterol Deficiency Directs Autophagy‐Dependent Secretion of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 1, January 2026.
Inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis within models of rare disease and cancer causes increased release of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) with distinct biological properties. Mechanistically, cholesterol depletion leads to impaired autophagic flux, redirection of autophagosomes to late endosomes, and subsequently increased sEV secretion ...

Gravitational power from cosmic string loops with many kinks

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate the effect of a large number of kinks on the gravitational power radiated by cosmic string loops. We show that the total power radiated by a loop with N left-moving and right-moving kinks is proportional to N and increases with the typical

Biologically Active Implants Prevent Mortality in a Mouse Sepsis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 32, December 19, 2025.
A modular, triple‐action titanium implant is developed to prevent implant‐associated infections by repelling bacteria, killing pathogens, and enhancing tissue integration. Coatings with phage cocktails targeting P. aeruginosa and S. aureus show significant bacterial reduction and improved survival in a mouse sepsis model.

Costas loop lock detection in the advanced receiver [PDF]

open access: yes
The advanced receiver currently being developed uses a Costas digital loop to demodulate the subcarrier. Previous analyses of lock detector algorithms for Costas loops have ignored the effects of the inherent correlation between the samples of the phase ...

Prodromal Sleep Disturbances and Polysomnographic Findings in Patients With Creutzfeldt–Jakob Disease

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study investigates the sleep‐related manifestations of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) by analyzing electroencephalography (EEG) and polysomnography (PSG) findings in a cohort of seven patients diagnosed between 2013 and 2023. Although only three patients initially reported sleep‐related complaints, comprehensive assessments revealed that all ...

Exploring Skill Generalization with an Extra Robotic Arm for Motor Augmentation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 11, November 2025.
Extra robotic arms promise to augment human motor functions during multitasking. Herein, diaphragmatic‐controlled extra robotic arm (XRA) is investigated, demonstrating significant performance improvements—true functional augmentation—in trimanual tasks. However, limited generalization to tasks requiring fine motor skills is identified.

A Novel Method For Speech Segmentation Based On Speakers' Characteristics

open access: yes, 2012
Speech Segmentation is the process change point detection for partitioning an input audio stream into regions each of which corresponds to only one audio source or one speaker. One application of this system is in Speaker Diarization systems.
