MicroRNA‐941 Acts as a Novel Prognostic Predictor and Oncogenic Driver in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Upregulation of miR‐941 was a promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for CRC patients. Inhibition of miR‐941 significantly suppressed CRC cellular events and triggered ferroptosis. The oncogenic functions of miR‐941 were mediated through targeting TRPS1.

Evolution and hot topics of laparoscopic sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yesWaike lilun yu shijian
Rectal cancer is a prevalent malignant tumor both in China and worldwide. Despite the availability of numerous sphincter-preserving procedures for low rectal cancer, each with specific indications, advantages, and limitations, no single procedure ...

Current Status and Challenges of Imaging‐Based Diagnosis of Lymph Node Metastasis in Colon Cancer: The Lymph Node Committee of the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This review of the status and challenges of diagnosis of lymph node metastasis in colon cancer suggests that it is currently difficult to establish strict criteria for lymph node metastasis, indicating only moderate diagnostic performance. ABSTRACT Background Accurate pre‐treatment evaluation of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in colon cancer is important ...

Functional results of intersphincteric resection for low rectal cancer

open access: yesBritish Journal of Surgery, 2007
Abstract Background Intersphincteric resection (ISR) is the ultimate sphincter-preserving operation for very low rectal cancer. The aim of this study was to assess defaecatory function after ISR in relation to the degree of resection of the internal anal sphincter.

Multiparametric MRI in rectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
MRI has a pivotal role in both pretreatment staging and posttreatment evaluation of rectal cancer. The accuracy of MRI in pretreatment staging is higher compared with posttreatment evaluation.

Carcinoembryonic Antigen Messenger RNA in Pelvic Lavage Fluid Predicts Local Recurrence After Curative‐Intent Resection of Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Pelvic lavage carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) mRNA was quantified in 178 patients undergoing curative‐intent resection for rectal cancer. Positive pelvic lavage CEA mRNA was significantly associated with local recurrence and provided additional prognostic information beyond circumferential resection margin (CRM) status.

Age‐Dependent Prognostic Significance of Preoperative Transthyretin After Curative Resection for Stage I–III Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Preoperative malnutrition and systemic inflammation are established determinants of adverse outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC). Transthyretin (TTR), a rapid‐turnover hepatic protein, reflects both nutritional and inflammatory status; however, its clinical utility may be influenced by age‐ and sex‐related variability.

The prognostic and therapeutic significance of biological molecular markers in human anorectal carcinomas treated with 5'fluorouracil chemoradiation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Advances in tumour biology have led to studies of new biological markers, which may predict treatment response and clinical outcome independently of standard clinicopathological variables.
