An analysis of fog and low stratus life‐cycle regimes over central Europe
AbstractA better understanding of fog and low stratus (FLS) life cycles, in particular the typical onset and dissipation times, can help traffic safety and solar power planning. Besides its high dependence on the prevalent meteorological conditions, the FLS life cycle is further determined by the FLS type as well as the underlying geography and climate.

A satellite perspective on fog and low stratus dissipation over Europe

In this study, the dissipation of fog and low stratus (FLS) over Europe is analyzed based on geostationary satellite data using logistic regression.
The dissipation of FLS is a result of the interaction of complex physical processes and its timing has implications for environmental systems, traffic at ...

The observed diurnal cycle of low-level stratus clouds over southern West Africa: a case study [PDF]
This study presents the first detailed observational analysis of the complete diurnal cycle of stratiform low-level clouds (LLC) and involved atmospheric processes over southern West Africa (SWA).

AbstractKnowledge of fog and low stratus (FLS) cloud patterns and life cycles is important for traffic safety, for the production of solar energy and for the analysis of cloud processes in the climate system. While meteorological stations provide information on FLS, a data set describing FLS formation and dissipation times on large spatial and temporal

Fog - low stratus (FLS) regimes on Corsica with wind and PBLH as key drivers
Abstract The French Mediterranean island of Corsica is already today confronted with a clear tendency towards water shortage, leading not only to socio-economical, but also to ecological problems. A potential, but not very widespread source of water is the presence of near-ground clouds, mostly fog. In this study, we investigate fog-low stratus (FLS)

MODIS-Derived Arctic Melt Season Fog and Low Stratus over East Greenland Glaciers and the Ice Sheet
In a first attempt to quantify fog over vast snow and ice surfaces, we present the horizontal and vertical spatial extent of significant melt-season fog events over East Greenland glaciers and the Greenland ice sheet.
