Magnitud, composición y patrones espaciotemporales de la mortalidad de vertebrados en las carreteras a escala regional [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Although roadkill studies on a large scale are challenging, they can provide valuable information to assess the impact of road traffic on animal populations.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Upgrading Bridge Rails on Low-Volume Roads in Iowa, TR-679, 2016 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Building on previous research, the goal of this project was to identify significant influencing factors for the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to consider in future updates of its Instructional Memorandum (I.M.) 3.213, which provides guidelines ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Performance Prediction Modelling for Flexible Pavement on Low Volume Roads Using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2015
Prediction models for low volume village roads in India are developed to evaluate the progression of different types of distress such as roughness, cracking, and potholes.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Developing Pavement Distress Deterioration Models for Pavement Management System Using Markovian Probabilistic Process

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2017
In the state of Colorado, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) utilizes their pavement management system (PMS) to manage approximately 9,100 miles of interstate, highways, and low-volume roads.

Consistent Approach to Predictive Modeling and Countermeasure Determination by Crash Type for Low-Volume Roads

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2014
The object of this research is to develop one and only injury crash rate prediction model differentiable for three main crash types (head-on/side collisions, rear-end collisions, single-vehicle run-off-road crashes) observed on the selected Italian two ...

Estimating the resilient modulus of subgrade materials using visual inspection

open access: yesTransportes, 2022
The definition of the Resilient Modulus (MR) of subgrade soils is essential for the reliable implementation of mechanistic-empirical pavement design. The MR of the soil is measured through repeated triaxial load tests which require expensive equipment ...

Modeling spatial variability in the life-cycle costs of low-volume forest roads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cost estimation is probably the most decisive factor in the process of computer-aided, preliminary planning for low-volume road networks. However, the cost of construction is normally assumed to be route-independent for a specific project area, resulting
