Molecular Palaeontology Prospects From Exceptionally Preserved Eocene Brackish‐Water Bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis (Venerida: Corbiculidae) From Hokkaido, Japan

This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.

Digitizing collections to unlock the full potential of palynology: A case study with the Smithsonian palynology collection

Large palynological collections have been built over decades and contain vital information. However, they are often difficult to access and use effectively. What is the point of having such collections if they are not fully utilizable? To solve this problem, we digitized the Smithsonian palynological collection using both light and confocal microscopy.

Understanding how cooperative interactions remain stable matters for biodiversity because many plants rely on specialist insects that can also impose reproductive costs. We studied the interaction between Sambucus sieboldiana and seed‐consuming Heterhelus beetles through detailed field observations and pollination experiments.
