Lower Cambrian acritarchs from northern Spain: the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary and biostratigraphic implications

Geological Magazine, 1992
AbstractAcritarchs are reported from basal Cambrian rock units inthe Cantabrian region of northern Spain that are known to contain archaeocyathan and trilobite faunas. Biostratigraphic correlation of the Iberian sequences with other regions has been hampered by the strong provincialism of these faunas.

Episodic growth of Precambrian lower crust beneath the North China Craton: A synthesis

Precambrian Research, 2012
a b s t r a c t A comprehensive review of U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotopes of zircons separated from granulite xenoliths entrained in Phanerozoic magmatic rocks and inherited xenocrysts from the associated lower crust rocks from various domains of the North China Craton (NCC) provides new insights into under- standing the evolution of the lower crust

Lower palaeozoic and precambrian petroleum source rocks and the coalification path of alginite

Organic Geochemistry, 1992
Organic-rich samples derived from a Middle Cambrian Formation in the Georgina Basin, and from the Middle Proterozoic of the McArthur Basin in northern and central Australia, yielded alginite ranging from immature oil shale material to overmature residue. A maturation scale has been developed based on the thermal evolution of alginite as determined from

Characteristics and evolution of the lower precambrian basement of the North China platform

Journal of Southeast Asian Earth Sciences, 1989
Abstract The Lower Precambrian basement of the North China platform is composed of Lower, Upper Archaean and Lower Proterozoic metamorphic complexes. The Lower Archaean metamorphic complex, distributed mainly in the North Border sub-domain, consists of granulite, gneiss, amphibolite and pyroxenite. The metamorphic grade is up to granulite facies. The

Uppermost Precambrian(?)–Lower Cambrian of mainland Nova Scotia: faunas, depositional environments, and stratigraphic revision

Journal of Paleontology, 1991
The uppermost Precambrian(?)–Lower Cambrian of the Avalon Zone in the northern Antigonish Highlands is composed of two dissimilar sequences in thrust contact. These include the sandstones and slates of the Doctor's Brook allochthon and the volcanoclastic-rich Malignant Cove authochthon.Lithostratigraphy of the “Black John Formation” (designation ...

An exposed cross-section of early precambrian continental lower crust in North China craton

Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Part A: Solid Earth and Geodesy, 2001
Abstract Early Precambrian rocks are widespread distributed in northern China and constitute the metamorphic crystalline basement of the North China craton. An oblique successive rock sequence of the continental lower crust in the northern part of the craton has been recognized.

A late Precambrian tidal shelf deposit, the Lower Sandfjord Formation, Finnmark, North Norway

Sedimentology, 1980
ABSTRACTThe Lower Sandfjord Formation is a 1.5 km thick late Precambrian sandstone. It is a remarkably homogeneous unit consisting largely (98%) of cross‐bedded, texturally and mineralogically mature, coarse or medium sandstone, and is interpreted as a shallow marine deposit.

Upper Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic Miogeocline in Great Basin, Western United States: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1973
Shallow-marine, intertidal, and supratidal detrital and carbonate strata of late Precambrian (less than 850 m.y.) and early Paleozoic (more than 345 m.y.) age thicken from a few thousand feet in cratonic areas east of the Great Basin to 40,000 ft in the central Great Basin 200-300 mi west.

Nature and classification of microfossils of plant origin from Precambrian and lower Paleozoic

International Geology Review, 1965
A general consolidation of data relating to reports of Precambrian and lower Paleozoic spores of land plants and hystrichosphaers is presented. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of establishing clear and objective means of separating and classifying these organic remains. Their value lies in the theoretical interpretation of the origin of land plants

Upper Precambrian through Lower Cambrian of Cape Breton Island: faunas, paleoenvironments, and stratigraphic revision

Journal of Paleontology, 1991
Latest Precambrian through Early Cambrian tectonic history and stratigraphy are comparable in southeastern Cape Breton Island and the western Placentia–Bonavista axis, southeastern Newfoundland. The lithostratigraphic nomenclature of southeastern Newfoundland is used for this interval in Cape Breton Island.
