Unbounded Supersolutions of Nonlinear Equations with Nonstandard Growth

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2006
We show that every weak supersolution of a variable exponent p-Laplace equation is lower semicontinuous and that the singular set of such a function is of zero capacity if the exponent is logarithmically Hölder continuous.

On convergence and complexity analysis of an accelerated forward–backward algorithm with linesearch technique for convex minimization problems and applications to data prediction and classification

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2021
In this work, we introduce a new accelerated algorithm using a linesearch technique for solving convex minimization problems in the form of a summation of two lower semicontinuous convex functions.

Optimal Control for a Nonlocal Model of Non-Newtonian Fluid Flows

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
This paper deals with an optimal control problem for a nonlocal model of the steady-state flow of a differential type fluid of complexity 2 with variable viscosity. We assume that the fluid occupies a bounded three-dimensional (or two-dimensional) domain

Characterization of quadratic growth of extended-real-valued functions

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2016
This paper shows that the sharpest possible bound in the second-order growth condition of a proper lower semicontinuous function can be attained under some assumptions. We also establish a relationship among strong metric subregularity, quadratic growth,

Existence of Subharmonic Periodic Solutions to a Class of Second-Order Non-Autonomous Neutral Functional Differential Equations

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2012
By introducing subdifferentiability of lower semicontinuous convex function φ(x(t),x(t−τ)) and its conjugate function, as well as critical point theory and operator equation theory, we obtain the existence of multiple subharmonic periodic solutions to ...

From continuous to interruptible distillation: Flexible electric heating column architecture with fast start‐up

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Electrification of distillation offers a promising route to reducing scope‐1 emissions from one of the chemical industry's most energy‐intensive unit operations. However, conventional adiabatic columns are dynamically inflexible: Long, energy‐intensive start‐ups make shutdown and restart impractical under variable electricity prices and ...

Kinetic Modeling of Phosphate‐Based Enzyme Cascade for the Production of Fructose From Starch

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
A mechanistic kinetic model is developed for a phosphate‐based cascade converting starch to fructose. Mechanistic information was used to formulate rate expression of enzymes, and sensitivity analysis was performed to identify key kinetic parameters for optimization.

The Order Completion Method for Systems of Nonlinear PDEs: Solutions of Initial Value Problems

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
We present an existence result for generalized solutions of initial value problems obtained through the order completion method. The solutions we obtain satisfy the initial condition in a suitable extended sense, and each such solution may be represented

Ekeland-type variational principle with applications to nonconvex minimization and equilibrium problems

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2019
The aim of the present paper is to establish a variational principle in metric spaces without assumption of completeness when the involved function is not lower semicontinuous.
