The fate of cadmium in field soils of the Danubian lowland
Soil and Tillage Research, 2006Abstract The susceptibility of soils to deep penetration of cadmium was assessed by measuring cadmium adsorption on soil particles 2 ) agriculturally managed area situated in the south-west of Slovakia, with a shallow (0.5–3.8 m deep) underlying aquifer containing about 10 km 3 of freshwater.

Investigation of soil diversity in the Terek-Kuma Lowland
Eurasian Soil Science, 2006The soil diversity in the Terek-Kuma Lowland has been studied on the basis of detailed soil maps of several key sites. The role of multicomponent soil complexes in the formation of stable soil cover is shown. The main tendencies in the evolution of soil diversity in the area of the Terek-Kuma Lowland under natural and anthropogenic conditions are shown.

Soils of the lowland forests of West and Central Africa
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Section B. Biological Sciences, 1996The forest zone of West and Central Africa comprises the coastal and adjacent inland regions bounded the semi-deciduous forests in the west and the equatorial forests in central Africa and the Congo basin. Sedimentary plains, developed mostly on weathered sandy materials, lie along the coastal stretches and cover vast areas of the Congo basin.

Impacts of the ancient Maya on soils and soil erosion in the central Maya Lowlands
CATENA, 2006Abstract Many studies across the central and southern Maya Lowlands of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico have produced records of land degradation, mostly sedimentation and soil erosion, during the ancient Maya period from before 1000 BC to the Maya Collapse of c. AD 900.

Soil nutrient–landscape relationships in a lowland tropical rainforest in Panama
Forest Ecology and Management, 2008Abstract Soils play a crucial role in biogeochemical cycles as spatially distributed sources and sinks of nutrients. Any spatial patterns depend on soil forming processes, our understanding of which is still limited, especially in regards to tropical rainforests.

Classification of lowland oak forest soils in Croatia
2008Research of lowland oak forest sites have been going on since 1963. Their basic aim was to determine the most favourable stand form, optimal production and investment priorities on the basis of ecological conditions and management potentials for individual site complexes. One of the main components in data gathering was forest soil.

Valuing Soils in the Tropical Lowlands of Eastern Bolivia
1996There has long been concern that farmers use soil resources extractively without regard for their long-run value. Over 30 years ago FAO staff warned that ‘Shifting cultivation in the humid tropical countries is the greatest obstacle not only to the immediate increase of agricultural production, but also to the conservation of production potential of ...
