Targeting LSCs: powering an old tool
Blood, 2008In this issue of Blood , Hassane and colleagues describe the discovery of new therapeutic agents effective against leukemic initiating cells through an in silico approach, demonstrating the power of collective knowledge deposited in publicly available gene-expression databases.

Random LSC Functions: An Ergodic Theorem
Mathematics of Operations Research, 2001An ergodic theorem for random lsc (lower semicontinuous) functions is obtained by relying on a “scalarization” of such functions. In the process, Kolmogorov's extension theorem for random lsc functions is established. Applications to statistical estimation problems, composite materials, and stochastic optimization problems are briefly noted.

The photoionization-reduced energy in LSC
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2006The atomic rearrangement cascade that follows the electron-capture decay process in low-Z radionuclides involves X-rays which have high photoelectric interaction probabilities. When the K-shell binding energy of the ionized atom (e.g., hydrogen) is significantly lower than the energy of the X-ray photon, the detector response to a photon-equivalent ...

Consistency Checking for LSC Specifications
2009 Third IEEE International Symposium on Theoretical Aspects of Software Engineering, 2009Live sequence charts (LSCs) have been proposed as an inter-object scenario-based specification and visual programming language. In this paper, we introduce a high level computational semantics of LSCs, in the form of a PLAY-tree, to show how a running LSC affects the system behaviors in response to a set of external events.

Half-life determination of 40K by LSC
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2002The long-lived radioisotope 40K is one of the isotopes applied by geologists to date rocks hundreds or even thousands of millions of years old. Knowing the half-life of 40K, the potassium-argon (K-Ar) method gives an estimate of the date of the rock's formation by measuring the quantity of the daughter stable isotope 40Ar.

SYNTHESIZING STATE-BASED OBJECT SYSTEMS FROM LSC SPECIFICATIONS
International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2001Live sequence charts (LSCs) have been defined recently as an extension of message sequence charts (MSCs; or their UML variant, sequence charts (MSCs; or their UML variant, sequence diagrams) for rich inter-object specification. One of the main additions is the notion of universal charts and hot, mandatory behavior, which, among other things, enables ...

Distinguishing CML LSCs from HSCs using CD26
Blood, 2014In this issue of Blood, Herrmann et al elegantly demonstrate that CD26 is a new, specific chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) stem cell biomarker that phenotypically distinguishes leukemic stem cells (LSCs) from normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and that it is a potential therapeutic target in CML.
