Application of an automated LSPIV system in a mountainous stream for continuous flood flow measurements

Hydrological Processes, 2016
AbstractAn imaging‐based automated large‐scale particle image velocimetry (LSPIV) system for flash flood monitoring is developed and deployed in a mountainous stream in the Longchi Catchment, Chengdu, China. This system is built from a low‐cost Raspberry Pi board‐level computer with a camera module, which can acquire continuous images/videos ...

TiFA: An Efficient and Robust LSPIV Algorithm Based on Joint Distribution Analysis

The incapability of processing flow velocities under low tracer density conditions is one of the limitations of the traditional Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV). This study developed a new LSPIV algorithm, Time Frequency Analysis (TiFA), to overcome such a limitation, enhance computational efficiency, and improve the accuracy of derived ...

On the performance of streamflow gauging using CCTV-integrated LSPIV in diverse hydro-environmental conditions

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment
Addressing the critical need for precise streamflow measurements in hydro-environmental research, this study evaluates large-scale particle image velocimetry (LSPIV) using cost-effective closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, providing a detailed sensitivity analysis in both laboratory and real-world canal settings.

Flood discharge measurements by image analysis (LSPIV technique) in the Ardèche river catchment

2009
Flash-floods that occur in the southern Mediterranean region of France result in significant casualties and economic impacts. Remote techniques such as image analysis offer an opportunity to improve the accuracy of flow rate measurements during such events, by measuring the surface flow velocities.
