On the Uncertainty of the Image Velocimetry Method Parameters
Image velocimetry is a popular remote sensing method mainly because of the very modest cost of the necessary equipment. However, image velocimetry methods employ parameters that require high expertise to select appropriate values in order to obtain ...

Abstract Channel‐floodplain flow interactions are strongly influenced by riparian vegetation characteristics. However, due to the complicated relationships among floods, vegetation, and channel morphodynamics, these interactions are poorly understood. In this study, we investigate the influence of the density of rigid floodplain vegetation on flow in ...

This study is motivated by the difficulty of applying experimental techniques to characterize base flows in mountain rivers. Intrusive instruments are not optimal for measuring low flow rates, as they require a minimum depth to be submerged and to ...

Abstract Gravel replenishment (GR) is a common strategy to mitigate the negative effects of sediment deficit caused by dam regulation. However, its effectiveness in restoring dam‐regulated embanked gravel‐bed rivers with alternate bars is still unclear.

ACOUSTIC MAPPING VELOCIMETRY PROOF-OF-CONCEPT EXPERIMENT [PDF]
Knowledge of sediment dynamics in rivers is of great importance for various practical purposes. Despite its high relevance in riverine environment processes, the monitoring of sediment rates remains a major and challenging task for both suspended and ...

Advantages of a mobile LSPIV method for measuring flood discharges and improving stage–discharge curves [PDF]
Abstract This paper investigates the potential of fast flood discharge measurements conducted with a mobile LSPIV device. LSPIV discharge measurements were performed during two hydrological events on the Arc River, a gravel-bed river in the French Alps: a flood greater than the 10-year return period flood in May, 2008, and a reservoir flushing ...

Abstract The formation and evolution of tidal jet vortices over complex bathymetry were investigated using numerical modeling and in situ observation. Delft3D FM simulation on an unstructured grid system, complemented by field measurements using recreational drones captured tidal dynamics in the Uldolmok Strait, known for its strong tidal currents up ...

Assessment of 3D-RANS models for the simulation of topographically forced shallow flows
In this work the performance of Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations to predict the flow structure developed by the presence of a sidewall obstacle in a uniform open-channel shallow flow is discussed. The tested geometry was selected due to

Enhancement of two‐dimensional hydrodynamic modelling based on UAV‐ flow velocity data
We calibrated a 2D hydrodynamic model with three calibration sets and used UAV‐derived surface flow velocities and fixed velocity coefficients in an extensive cross‐validation and velocity conversion procedure. Performance varied between straight and meandering river reach, with bathymetry and distance to the channel centre as key factors.
