Mapping Evapotranspiration and Diffuse Recharge via Variational Assimilation of GOES LST and SMAP Soil Moisture

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Evapotranspiration (ET) and groundwater recharge are fundamental components of the terrestrial water cycle, critical for understanding land–atmosphere interactions, ecosystem dynamics, and climate feedbacks. However, large‐scale mapping of these fluxes is hindered by sparse in situ observations and uncertainties in land surface models.

No Differences in Muscular Adaptations to Long‐Term Resistance Training Between Young Strict Vegetarian and Non‐Vegetarian Women

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Medicine &Science in Sports, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Some evidence suggests that strict vegetarian and non‐vegetarian diets may influence muscular adaptations to resistance training (RT), but findings remain inconsistent. This study compared muscular and body composition adaptations in strict vegetarian (VEG) and non‐vegetarian (NV) women following a 16‐week RT program without protein ...

Evaluation of Six Local Climate Zones Mapping Methods to Determine the Most Accurate LCZ Classification Method for UHI Studies: The Case Study of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Urban heat islands (UHIs) pose a significant environmental issue in rapidly urbanizing areas, intensifying the need for accurate methods to assess and mitigate their effects. The Local Climate Zones (LCZ) classification system is a standardized land use approach for urban heat island (UHI) research.

Origin of Intense Plasma Depletions After Midnight Over the Korean Peninsula During the Geomagnetic Storm on 11 May 2024

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract A band of total electron content (TEC) depletions of about 5–15 TEC unit passed over the Korean Peninsula after midnight during the geomagnetic storm on 11 May 2024. This magnitude of TEC depletions has not been previously reported in the region.
