Substrate Preference of Black Soldier Fly Larvae Is Influenced by Rearing History
BSF larvae were reared under six different conditions: low, medium, or high larval density and on low, medium, and high‐water feeds to investigate feed choice behaviour. Larvae reared under all six conditions preferred substrate colonised by conspecifics. Low‐water feed caused slower larval growth and development.

In two‐choice laboratory bioassays, food‐deprived and CO2‐stimulated stable flies were offered paired landing platforms that were baited or not (control) with conspecific flies. The presence of conspecifics prompted the attraction and landing of foraging stable flies.

Cryopreservation of Embryos ofLucilia sericata(Diptera: Calliphoridae) [PDF]
Embryos of Lucilia (Phaenicia) sericata (Meigen) (Diptera Calliphoridae), the green blowfly, were successfully cryopreserved by vitrification in liquid nitrogen and stored for 8 yr. Embryos incubated at 19 degrees C for 17 h after oviposition were found to be the most appropriate stage to cryopreserve.
