Lucio’s phenomenon in untreated advanced leprosy

A 77-year-old woman with underlying diabetes mellitus, hypertension and Parkinson disease presented to the emergency department with burn injury after dipping her foot into hot water. She was admitted with 75% dermal thickness burn of bilateral foot. On examination, she was noted to have extensive purpuric patches with livedo reticularis.

[Virchowian Hansen's disease, Lucio's phenomenon, cryptococcosis].

A 75 years old white male, for 3 years on treatment for virchowian hanseniasis, was admitted with active HD lesions, infiltration on the base of right lung, leg ulcer and malaise. After two days he developed purpura and hemorrhagic blisters in the limbs. The biopsy of these lesions revealed Lucio phenomenon.
