During a meeting of the Research group of the University of Vienna “Lukács in the context of European culture” in Budapest I found in the Lukács archive a letter to Hans Mayer of June 19th, 1961, which we reproduce here. Lukács aims to clarify his intellectual relationship with Brecht and to specify that the sense of the debate on literature of 1938
