A biomechanical investigation of the sacroiliac joint in the setting of lumbosacral fusion: impact of pelvic fixation versus sacroiliac joint fixation.

Journal of Neurosurgery : Spine, 2019
OBJECTIVE The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a known source of low-back pain. Randomized clinical trials support sacroiliac fusion over conservative management for SIJ dysfunction.

DEGENERATIVE ARTHRITIS OF THE LUMBOSACRAL JOINT

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1959
In 222 patients examined for degenerative arthritis of the vertebral column, the lumbosacral joint was involved in 160 and the other lumbar joints in only 62. A study was made of 125 patients with lumbosacral arthritis. Some had had symptoms as long as 40 years. Only 14 gave histories of real trauma or heavy lifting.

Biomechanical analysis of facet joint slippage of lumbosacral joints under static loadings

2010 3rd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, 2010
In this study, three-dimensional laser scanning technology was employed to measure geometrical data of the human spine vertebrae. Based on the measured point-cloud data of the vertebra figuration, a detailed three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model of the lumbosacral joint L5-S1 of the spine was created and used to investigate the biomechanical

LUMBOSACRAL FACETAL ‘JOINT ANGLES’ ASSOCIATED WITH LEG ENGTH INEQUALITY

Rheumatology, 1981
Differences in the right and left lumbosacral facetal "joint angles' are compared in non-acute low back pain patients with a leg length discrepancy of greater than 9 mm and a control group with a 0-3 mm leg length discrepancy. The method of erect-posture lumbosacral oblique radiography is described, as well as the method of measuring the lumbosacral ...

Unilateral dislocation of the lumbosacral facet joint: Imaging features

Emergency Radiology, 1995
Unilateral dislocation at the lumbosacral junction is a rare injury associated with severe hyperflexion and rotation of the lumbar spine. Plain film findings suggesting facet dislocation are usually confirmed with computed tomography. Most surgeons advocate early open reduction, internal fixation, and fusion.

The Sacroiliac Joint and Long Lumbosacral Fusions

2014
This chapter discusses the inherent implications involving the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) when a long lumbosacral fusion is performed. It will discuss direct effects on the SIJ due to adjacent stress from the more modern methods being used to attain a solid lumbosacral fusion.
