The respiratory metabolism of selected lumbricidae

Oecologia, 1976
Open-system infra red gas analysis was used to measure the CO2 output throughout a year of four species of earthworm. The respiratory quotients (R.Q.s) of the four species were determined by means of a Warburg apparatus and it was found that they varied with season.

Earthworms (Oligochaeta, Lumbricidae) and mycobacteria

Veterinary Microbiology, 2003
The objective of the study was to define the role of earthworms in the survival of mycobacteria in animal populations. In 13 sampling sites mycobacteria were detected in 53 (5.5%) samples of faeces and parenchymatous tissues from animals, in 25 (7.3%) environmental and in nine (8.2%) earthworm samples. In cattle and goat farms affected by Mycobacterium

Responses of Lumbricidae to Saline Inundation

The Journal of Applied Ecology, 1979
SUMMARY (1) A survey of the lumbricid populations of two localities in northwest England that had recently been inundated by the sea revealed a decline in density, biomass and species spectrum of Lumbricidae in proportion to the severity of inundation. Allolobophora spp. were dominant in all soils.

Diversity of polyploid races in the family Lumbricidae

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1997
Abstract Drawing on the results of research and published data in this paper, we have examined the rate of occurrence of polyploids (genome mutation) in Lumbricidae. As is shown, the frequency of occurrence of polyploid karyotypes (46) almost equals that of diploids (52).

Earthworms (Oligochaeta, Lumbricidae) in the Tundra of Eastern Europe

Biology Bulletin, 2019
It has been established that three earthworm species inhabit tundra landscapes of Eastern Europe: the Eastern European–Siberian Eisenia n. nordenskioldi, cosmopolitan Lumbricus rubellus (sporadic occurrences near the forest edge), and cosmopolitan Dendrobaena octaedra. In the Palaearctic zonal tundra, D.
