Silent Partners in the Mill: Unveiling the Role of Additives in Mechanochemical Synthesis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Mechanochemistry offers a sustainable, solvent‐free alternative to traditional synthesis, often enhanced by additives in a process known as additive‐assisted grinding. This review discusses how various additives, including liquids, ionic solids, and advanced materials like ionic liquids and piezoelectric compounds, improve reaction efficiency ...

Preliminary Numerical Evaluation of Directly Heated Structured Packings to be Used for Separation Processes

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
In terms of electrification, directly heated structured packings are a viable option. They offer the advantage of providing energy where it is required, thereby positively impacting the separation process and helping to minimize heat loss. Using CO2 desorption from aqueous MEA solution as an exemplary process, different heating strategies are compared.

Bifunctional Molecular Switches in Fused Diarylethene–Rhodamine Systems

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, EarlyView.
Spectroscopic and time‐dependent density‐functional theory studies show that these novel rhodamine‐based diarylethene (DAE) compounds display intense UV absorption, undergo reversible two‐step protonation involving triazole and rhodamine units, and respond selectively to acid, base, and metal ions.
