Temperature‐Modulated Threshold Response in a Volatile Memristor: Toward a Biomimetic Polymodal Nociceptive System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an artificial polymodal nociceptor whose firing threshold is actively modulated by temperature. A volatile TiN/TiOx/ZnO/TiOx/ITO memristor shows interfacial ion–driven resistive switching and membrane‐potential‐like dynamics, enabling temperature‐dependent nociceptive behavior.

A physics-based model of threshold voltage for amorphous oxide semiconductor thin-film transistors

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
In the application of the Lambert W function, the surface potential for amorphous oxide semiconductor thin-film transistors (AOS TFTs) under the subthreshold region is approximated by an asymptotic equation only considering the tail states.

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Very-High Color Rendering Index Hybrid White Organic Light-Emitting Diodes with Double Emitting Nanolayers

open access: yesNano-Micro Letters, 2014
A very-high color rendering index white organic light-emitting diode (WOLED) based on a simple structure was successfully fabricated. The optimized device exhibits a maximum total efficiency of 13.1 and 5.4 lm/W at 1,000 cd/m2.

Ca3La2Te2O12:Mn4+,Nd3+,Yb3+ : an efficient thermally-stable UV/visible-far red/NIR broadband spectral converter for c-Si solar cells and plant-growth LEDs

open access: yes, 2019
A series of novel Mn4+, Nd3+, Yb3+-doped Ca3La2Te2O12 (CLTO) phosphors were prepared by substituting Te6+ for W6+ in the Ca3La2W2O12 compound using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Kilogram-scale one-pot synthesis of multicomponent fullerene composites for efficient inverted perovskite solar cells

open access: yesNature Communications
The high cost and detrimental self-aggregation of conventional single-component fullerenes such as C60 and PCBM constitute a major obstacle to the commercialization of inverted perovskite solar cells (IPSCs). We report a kilogram-scale, one-pot synthesis

A silicone host for Lumogen dyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Altering the encapsulant colour in photovoltaic (PV) modules is a straightforward way of achieving greater colour range whilst minimising additional cost in PV systems. Lumogen fluorescent, organic dyes offer a way of adding colour to the encapsulant

Uncovering the Origin of Efficiency Roll‐Off in TADF OLEDs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
OLEDs based on thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) materials often suffer from a severe drop in efficiency at high brightness levels. This work presents a technique to uncover the source of this efficiency drop, and quantifies the exciton‐exciton and exciton‐polaron annihilation processes responsible for efficiency losses in our TADF OLEDs ...
