Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Growth and flowering of carnation cultivated in different pot colors and protected environments

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca
The Dianthus caryophyllus L. occupies the second position of the best sold cut flowers after rose. The choice of the environment and the cultivation container is crucial for flower production because, besides permitting higher temperature, light, and ...

Taxas de crescimento de mudas de catingueira submetidas a diferentes substratos e sombreamentos Growth rates of catingueira seedlings submitted to different substrates and shading

open access: yesRevista Árvore, 2009
A catingueira (Caesalpinia pyramidalis Tul.) é uma espécie nativa da caatinga dotada de grande resistência à seca e de grande potencial econômico. No entanto, não existem informações sobre o desenvolvimento dessa espécie em diferentes substrates e ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

The influence of side-curtain color on broiler chick behavior

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2013
Brazilian poultry production is prospering, and negative-pressure broiler houses are increasingly used to improve environmental control. One important issue is the color of the side curtains used in such houses due to the influence of colors on broiler ...

The luminosities of the brightest cluster galaxies and brightest satellites in SDSS groups

open access: yes, 2012
We show that the distribution of luminosities of Brightest Cluster Galaxies in an SDSS-based group catalog suggests that BCG luminosities are just the statistical extremes of the group galaxy luminosity function.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Luminosity Profiles of Merger Remnants

open access: yes, 1999
Using published luminosity and molecular gas profiles of the late-stage mergers NGC 3921, NGC 7252 and Arp 220, we examine the expected luminosity profiles of the evolved merger remnants, especially in light of the massive CO complexes that are observed ...

Toward precise constraints on growth of massive black holes

open access: yes, 2008
Growth of massive black holes (MBHs) in galactic centers comes mainly from gas accretion during their QSO/AGN phases. In this paper we apply an extended Soltan argument, connecting the local MBH mass function with the time-integral of the QSO luminosity ...
