Luminosity function of faint Galactic sources in the Chandra bulge field

open access: yes, 2011
We study the statistical properties of faint X-ray sources detected in the Chandra Bulge Field. The unprecedented sensitivity of the Chandra observations allows us to probe the population of faint Galactic X-ray sources down to luminosities L(2-10 keV ...

The Radio Luminosity Function of Cluster Radio Halos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A significant fraction of galaxy clusters exhibits cluster wide radio halos. We give a simple prediction of the local and higher redshift radio halo luminosity function (RHLF) on the basis of (i) an observed and a theoretical X-ray cluster luminosity ...

The rate, luminosity function and time delay of non-Collapsar short GRBs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We estimate the rate and the luminosity function of short (hard) Gamma-Ray Bursts (sGRBs) that are non-Collapsars, using the peak fluxes and redshifts of BATSE, Swift and Fermi GRBs. Following Bromberg2013 we select a sub-sample of Swift bursts which are

In Vitro Modeling of Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity to Inform Personalized ALS Therapeutics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Natural killer (NK) cells might contribute to motor neuron death in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) through direct cytotoxicity, a process that could be inhibited with the FDA‐approved JAK/STAT pathway inhibitor, tofacitinib. This study aimed to verify that tofacitinib can suppress NK cell cytotoxicity, investigate if immune cell

A Bias-corrected Luminosity Function for Red Supergiant Supernova Progenitor Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The apparent tension between the luminosity functions of red supergiant (RSG) stars and of RSG progenitors of Type II supernovae (SNe) is often referred to as the RSG problem and it motivated some to suggest that many RSGs end their life without an SN ...

Devouring the Milky Way Satellites: Modeling Dwarf Galaxies with Galacticus

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Dwarf galaxies are ubiquitous throughout the universe and are extremely sensitive to various forms of internal and external feedback. Over the last two decades, the census of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group and beyond has increased markedly.

The Luminosity Function and Initial Mass Function in the Galactic Bulge [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1998
We present deep photometry obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in a field in Baade's Window in the Galactic bulge. We derive a luminosity function down to I ~ 24.3, or V ~ 27.5, corresponding to M ~ 0.3 Msun. The luminosity function from the turnoff down to this level appears remarkably similar to that observed in the solar neighborhood.

Revisiting the axion bounds from the Galactic white dwarf luminosity function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It has been shown that the shape of the luminosity function of white dwarfs (WDLF) is a powerful tool to check for the possible existence of DFSZ-axions, a proposed but not yet detected type of weakly interacting particles.

Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

The galaxy luminosity function at z ≃ 6 and evidence for rapid evolution in the bright end from z ≃ 7 to 5 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present the results of a search for bright (-22.7 5. We calculate the bright end of the rest-frame Ultra-Violet (UV) luminosity function (LF) at z ~ 6.
