Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

The Ultraviolet Luminosity Function at 0.6 < z < 1 from UVCANDELS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
UVCANDELS is a Hubble Space Telescope Cycle-26 Treasury Program awarded 164 orbits of primary ultraviolet (UV) F275W imaging and coordinated parallel optical F435W imaging in four CANDELS fields—GOODS-N, GOODS-S, EGS, and COSMOS—covering a total area of ∼

Cosmological parameters and evolution of the galaxy luminosity function [PDF]

open access: yes
The relationship between the observed distribution of discrete sources of a flux limited sample, the luminosity function of these sources, and the cosmological model is discussed.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

The Redshift Evolution of the Luminosity Function of Type II Gamma-Ray Bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
As of 2023 December, the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory satellite has detected more than 1600 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We select 307 Type II GRBs for constructing the luminosity function (LF) based on the following criteria: (1) duration T _90 ≥ 2 s; (2)

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Bright z ∼ 9 Galaxies in Parallel: The Bright End of the Rest-frame UV Luminosity Function from HST Parallel Programs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The abundance of bright galaxies at z > 8 can provide key constraints on models of galaxy formation and evolution, as the predicted abundance varies greatly when different physical prescriptions for gas cooling and star formation are implemented.
