A Spitzer study of interacting luminous and ultra-luminous infrared galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2011
AbstractWe conducted a Spitzer Space Telescope survey of 28 Luminous (11 < log (LIR/L⊙) < 12, LIRGs) and Ultra-Luminous Infrared Galaxies (log (LIR/L⊙) > 12, ULIRGs). Many of these galaxies are found in pairs or associations and are powered by either nuclear activity or star-formation (Sanders & Mirabel 1996).

Broadband X-Ray Spectral Analysis of the Double-nucleus Luminous Infrared Galaxy Mrk 463 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a broadband (0.4–70 keV) X-ray spectral analysis of the luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG) system Mrk 463 observed with Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), Chandra, and XMM-Newton, which contains double active galactic nuclei (AGNs ...

Stellar and black hole assembly in z < 0.3 infrared-luminous mergers: Intermittent starbursts versus super-Eddington accretion [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2022
We study stellar and black hole mass assembly in a sample of 42 infrared-luminous galaxy mergers at z < 0.3 by combining results from radiative transfer modelling with archival measures of molecular gas and black hole mass.

The Galaxy–Halo Connection of DESI Luminous Red Galaxies with Subhalo Abundance Matching

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We use subhalo abundance and age distribution matching to create magnitude-limited mock galaxy catalogs at z ∼ 0.43, 0.52, and 0.63 with z -band and 3.4 μ m W 1-band absolute magnitudes and r − z and r − W 1 colors. From these magnitude-limited mocks, we

Missing Giants: Predictions on Dust-obscured Galaxy Stellar Mass Assembly Throughout Cosmic Time

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Due to their extremely dust-obscured nature, much uncertainty still exists surrounding the stellar mass growth and content in dusty, star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) at z > 1. In this work, we present a numerical model built using empirical data on DSFGs to

The Role of AGN in Luminous Infrared Galaxies from the Multiwavelength Perspective

open access: yesUniverse, 2022
Galaxy mergers provide a mechanism for galaxies to effectively funnel gas and materials toward their nuclei and fuel the central starbursts and accretion of supermassive black holes.

Asca Observations of Luminous Infrared Starburst Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
We present recent results of X-ray observations of two luminous infrared galaxies, NGC3690+IC694 (Arp299) and NGC1614 obtained by the Japanese X-ray astronomical satellite ASCA. Both galaxies have quite high infrared luminosity (> 1011L⊙) and strong evidence of merger.

High-velocity extended molecular outflow in the star-formation dominated luminous infrared galaxy ESO 320-G030 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We analyze new high spatial resolution (~60 pc) ALMA CO(2-1) observations of the isolated luminous infrared galaxy ESO 320-G030 (d=48 Mpc) in combination with ancillary HST optical and near-IR imaging as well as VLT/SINFONI near-IR integral field ...

Decomposition of the central structure of NGC 2273 in the NIR: A case study

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 344, Issue 10, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 2273 is a prime target to explore how active nuclei can be fed. It has a star‐forming innermost nuclear ring with a radius of 0.33kpc from where material may be funneled to the supermassive black hole in its center. In this article, we discuss high‐resolution adaptive optics aided JHKs images of NGC 2273 taken with the
