Fading AGNs in Poststarburst Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The role of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in quenching galaxies and driving the evolution from star forming to quiescence remains a key question in galaxy evolution.

A Spitzer study of interacting luminous and ultra-luminous infrared galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2011
AbstractWe conducted a Spitzer Space Telescope survey of 28 Luminous (11 < log (LIR/L⊙) < 12, LIRGs) and Ultra-Luminous Infrared Galaxies (log (LIR/L⊙) > 12, ULIRGs). Many of these galaxies are found in pairs or associations and are powered by either nuclear activity or star-formation (Sanders & Mirabel 1996).

SGAS 143845.1+145407: A Big, Cool Starburst at Redshift 0.816 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present the discovery and a detailed multi-wavelength study of a strongly-lensed luminous infrared galaxy at z=0.816. Unlike most known lensed galaxies discovered at optical or near-infrared wavelengths this lensed source is red, r-Ks = 3.9 [AB ...

A Diverse Population of z ∼ 2 ULIRGs Revealed by JWST Imaging

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Four ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) observed with JWST/NIRcam in the Cosmos Evolution Early Release Science program offer an unbiased preview of the z ∼ 2 ULIRG population.

HI observations of luminous infrared galaxy mergers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A total of 19 luminous infrared galaxy mergers, with L_IR~2 10^11 L_sun for H_0=75 km/s/Mpc, have been observed in the HI line at Nancay and four of them were observed at Arecibo as well. Of these 19, ten had not been observed before.

NICMOS Observations of Interaction Triggered Star Formation in the Luminous Infrared Galaxy NGC 6090 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
High resolution, 1.1, 1.6, and 2.2 micron imaging of the luminous infrared galaxy NGC 6090 obtained with NICMOS of the Hubble Space Telescope are presented.

Two Candidates for Dual AGN in Dwarf-dwarf Galaxy Mergers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Dual active galactic nuclei (DAGN) are important for understanding galaxy-merger-triggered fueling of black holes and the hierarchical growth of structures.

Mid-Infrared Spectral Diagnostics of Luminous Infrared Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
We present a statistical analysis of 248 luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) which comprise the Great Observatories All‐sky LIRG Survey (GOALS) observed with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on‐board Spitzer in the rest‐frame wavelength range between 5 and 38 μm.

The Most Luminous Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Ultraluminous galaxies in the local universe (z$\leq$0.2) emit the bulk of their energy in the mid and far-infrared. The multiwavelength approach to these objects has shown that they are advanced mergers of gas-rich spiral galaxies.
