A simplified three-parameter model for analyzing torsional vibration of rectangular foundations on layered soil

open access: yesSoils and Foundations
Dynamic soil-structure interaction (SSI) significantly impacts structural vibration. Over the past few decades, numerous simplified models were developed to analyze dynamic SSI on homogeneous soil.

Evaluation of Human Impact on Sediment Dynamics in an Intensively Managed Agricultural Watershed Using Distributed Modeling

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT By altering hydrological and geomorphological processes at watershed scales, humans have substantially influenced the movement of sediment on Earth's surface. Despite widespread recognition of human impacts on erosion and deposition, few studies have assessed the magnitude of change in watershed‐scale sediment fluxes before and after the ...

Perspectives on water quality analysis emphasizing indexing, modeling, and application of artificial intelligence for comparison and trend forecasting

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Abstract Freshwater essential for civilization faces risk from untreated effluents discharged by industries, agriculture, urban areas, and other sources. Increasing demand and abstraction of freshwater deteriorate the pollution scenario more. Hence, water quality analysis (WQA) is an important task for researchers and policymakers to maintain ...

When the rich do (not) trust the (newly) rich: Experimental evidence on the effects of positive random shocks in the trust game

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract We study behavior in a trust game where first‐movers initially have a higher endowment than second‐movers but the occurrence of a positive random shock can eliminate this inequality by increasing the endowment of the second‐mover before the decision of the first‐mover.

Resolving taxa in a challenging orchid species complex using evidence from phylogenetics, morphometrics and floral scent chemistry

open access: yesTAXON, EarlyView.
Abstract Species can be difficult to circumscribe using morphology alone, and additional data can thus be useful for resolving challenging species complexes. Here we provide a case study of a South African orchid species complex which we resolved by analysing morphology, floral scent chemistry and molecular data.
