Optimization of the Balance between Protein, Lipid and Carbohydrate in Diets for Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The aim of this study was to investigate how the dietary balance between protein, lipid, and carbohydrate affects growth, welfare, and health with focus on immune responses, in lumpfish of body weight ranges 1.7‐10 g and 15‐50 g. A three‐component mixture design, with simultaneous variation of the three macronutrients was applied.

Sea otter population collapse in southwest Alaska: assessing ecological covariates, consequences, and causal factors

open access: yesEcological Monographs, Volume 91, Issue 4, November 2021., 2021
Abstract Sea otter (Enhydra lutris) populations in southwest Alaska declined substantially between about 1990 and the most recent set of surveys in 2015. Here we report changes in the distribution and abundance of sea otters, and covarying patterns in reproduction, mortality, body size and condition, diet and foraging behavior, food availability ...

Pharmacokinetic Data Show That Oxolinic Acid and Flumequine Are Absorbed and Excreted Rapidly From Plasma and Tissues of Lumpfish

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2019
This study examined the uptake, tissue distribution and elimination of the antibacterial agents oxolinic acid and flumequine in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus L.) by use of LC-MS/MS following a single oral administration of 25 mg/kg fish given in feed ...

A real‐world dataset and data simulation algorithm for automated fish species identification

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 199-209, November 2021., 2021
Developing high‐performing machine learning algorithms requires large amounts of annotated data for training. Manual annotation of data is labour‐intensive, and the cost/ effort needed is an important obstacle to the development and deployment of automated analysis.

Genetic improvement technologies to support the sustainable growth of UK aquaculture

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 13, Issue 4, Page 1958-1985, September 2021., 2021
Abstract While the UK is the fourth largest aquaculture producer in Europe by volume, it is the second largest by value with an annual first sale value of around £1 billion. Over 90% of this value is from Atlantic salmon farmed in Scotland, but other finfish and shellfish aquaculture species are important to several UK regions.

Invasive red king crab affects lumpsucker recruitment by egg consumption [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2012
The invasive red king crab Paralithodes camtschaticus preys on lumpsucker Cyclopterus lumpus eggs. We tested the hypothesis this egg consumption may hamper the recruitment of lumpsucker. Methods applied included field work, laboratory experiments and modelling of egg consumption.

Assessment of PIT tag retention, growth and post-tagging survival in juvenile lumpfish, Cyclopterus lumpus

open access: yesAnimal Biotelemetry, 2020
Background Passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags are used to study the movement and behaviour in populations of a wide variety of fish species and for a number of different applications from fisheries to aquaculture.

Fæðuval landsela í ósum lax og silungsveiðiáa í Húnaþingi vestra, metin útfrá fæðuleifum í selasaur [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The effect of harbour seal predation on salmonids has been frequently debated, although interactions between these species have never been thoroughly investigated in Icelandic waters prior to this study.

Regional variability in the trophic requirements of shelf sea fisheries in the Northeast Atlantic, 1973-2000 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Hydrographic, plankton, benthos, fisheries landings, and fish diet data from shelf sea areas in the Northeast Atlantic have been combined into an analysis of the foodweb structure and secondary production requirements of regional fisheries. Fish landings

Welfare Indicators for Aquaculture Research: Toolboxes for Five Farmed European Fish Species

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Refining approaches to measuring, monitoring and appraising animal welfare in aquaculture research is key to (i) protecting and optimizing it, (ii) documenting the severity of how and when it deviates, and (iii) ensuring good scientific quality, reliable results and reproducibility, amongst other factors.
