Analysis of the Radio Astronomy Explorer lunar orbit mission

Astrodynamics Conference, 1972
The second Radio Astronomy Explorer spacecraft (RAE-B) is planned to be inserted into lunar orbit in 1973. The transfer trajectory design, lunar orbit selection and launch opportunities are developed in relation to the spacecraft mass properties, propulsion capability and the scientific, environmental and engineering constraints. Alternative midcourse

Two-dimensional aperture synthesis in lunar radar astronomy

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1968
It is shown that when a distant object such as the Moon or a planet is observed by a continuous wave (c. w.) radar employing a single aerial, components of the two-dimensional Fourier transform of the target’s radar brightness distribution may be obtained by computing the autocorrelation function of the complex amplitude of the returned signals.

ESA lunar study: Precursor astronomy missions to the Moon

Advances in Space Research, 1996
Abstract We give a summary of the areas identified by the ESA Lunar Study Steering Group for Scientific Exploration of the Moon in the ESA report “Mission to the Moon”. We discuss the possible phased approach for different scientific areas and some potential Precursor Astronomy Missions. We give a short status of current related ESA studies.

A Lunar-Base Lab for Geology or Astronomy Courses

Journal of Geoscience Education, 1997
Based on long-term economic and technological trends, it is likely that lunar bases and related space activities will be a prominent feature of the early 21st century. The lunar-base lab featured here uniquely introduces students to the key elements of lunar geology by immersing them in the excitement of planning humanity's future on the Moon. Five (or
