Biopsy of the Lung

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1981
In this issue of The Annals are two articles dealing with methods for performing biopsies of lesions of the lung. The paper by Burt and co-workers (p 146) reports a prospective evaluation of aspiration needle biopsy, cutting needle biopsy, transbronchial biopsy, and open lung biopsy done synchronously in 20 patients with pulmonary infiltrates.

THORACOSCOPIC LUNG BIOPSY OR OPEN LUNG BIOPSY FOR INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE

Chest Surgery Clinics of North America, 1998
Both traditional open lung biopsy through a limited thoracotomy and VATS lung biopsy are effective methods for obtaining parenchymal samples in patients who have respiratory insufficiency and radiographic pulmonary infiltrates. For patients with slowly progressive disease processes, who require an elective biopsy, VATS biopsy is the procedure of choice

Lung Cancer Biopsies

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 2018
Image-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) is a well-established and minimally invasive technique for evaluating pulmonary nodules. Implementation of a national lung screening program and increased use of chest computed tomography have contributed to the frequent identification of indeterminate pulmonary nodules that may require ...

Lung Biopsy in Children

Pediatric Endosurgery & Innovative Techniques, 1997
ABSTRACT Operative thoracoscopy is not a new technique in pediatric patients. However, the indications to this approach are not well defined because of the little experience in the technical aspects and of the risks of seeding in case of oncologic procedures.

Open-Lung Biopsy

Archives of Surgery, 1967
OPEN biopsy of the lung through a limited thoracotomy incision deserves greater use in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with diffuse bilateral pulmonary disease, as is proven in the following examples: The pulmonary infiltrate may have been discovered only because of a routine chest roentgenogram in an otherwise asymptomatic patient.

Apical Lung Biopsy

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1971
Abstract A method for biopsying the apex of the lung through a supraclavicular approach, under local anesthesia and without positive-pressure breathing, is presented together with our experience using the procedure in 19 patients. In 9 patients with unilateral or bilateral infiltrates, the possibility of cancer was investigated.

NEEDLE BIOPSY OF THE LUNG

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954
It is often extremely difficult to ascertain the nature of a lesion in the peripheral portion of the pulmonary parenchyma. Roentgenographic evidence of the presence of a region of increased density within a lung is always an indication for additional diagnostic procedures.

Lung Biopsy

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 2000
There are many techniques that can be used to arrive at a diagnosis in dogs and cats with signs referable to the pulmonary system. Biopsy of the pulmonary parenchyma remains the technique of choice when a diagnosis is absolutely required; it is also the technique with the greatest potential for serious complications during and after the procedure. Transbronchial Lung Biopsy

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1977
INTRODUCTION Transbronchial lung biopsy (TBB) is a safe and effective tool useful for the diagnosis of a wide variety of diffuse and focal pulmonary diseases. TBB is regularly performed by 69% of practicing physicians documented in a survey of 1,800 North American pulmonary and critical care physicians [1].

Thoracoscopic lung biopsy

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1992
Progress in instrumentation and techniques developed for laparoscopic surgery have paved the way for a resurgent interest in thoracoscopic procedures. Traditional thoracoscopy was limited by access, restricted visualization, and surgical devices. Recent cases provided an opportunity to successfully perform thoracoscopic pulmonary wedge excisions using ...
