Role of Computed Tomography and Mediastinoscopy in the Staging of Lung Cancer: A Canadian Opinion Poll

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, 1997
OBJECTIVES: To address the Canadian Lung Oncology group’s recently published results and recommendations suggesting that mediastinoscopy is unnecessary in the staging nonsmall cell lung cancer when computed tomography shows no enlarged mediastinal lymph ...

Invasive staging of the mediastinum

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2013
Staging of patients with lung cancer provides accurate information on the extent of disease and guides the choice of treatment. Non-invasive imaging techniques are safe, however these imaging techniques have limited accuracy in detection of mediastinal ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

The new 8th TNM staging system of lung cancer and its potential imaging interpretation pitfalls and limitations with CT image demonstrations

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology, 2019
The tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) staging system approved by International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) to stage lung cancer was recently revised.

Palliative stenting for oesophagogastric cancer: tumour and host factors and prognosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives: Palliative self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) insertion is common in patients not suitable for resection of oesophagogastric (OG) cancer. Factors which may determine survival, however, are not clear.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Gastric cancer is the leading cause of death in Italian adult patients with common variable immunodeficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
An increased prevalence of malignant lymphoma and of gastric cancer has been observed in large cohorts of patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), the most frequently symptomatic primary immunodeficiency. Surveillance strategies for cancers
