NO diffusing capacity of rabbit lungs increases with ventilator-driven lung expansion

Pflügers Archiv, 2001
In this animal study we evaluated the dependence of the pulmonary diffusing capacity (DL) of nitric oxide (DL,NO) on ventilator-driven increases in alveolar volume. According to the common hypothesis as to whether DL,NO reflects the diffusive properties of the alveolar-capillary membrane, DL,NO should be improved by lung expansion.

Lung diffusing capacity: rebreathing method, applicability in nonuniform ventilation

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1965
We have calculated how the carbon monoxide concentration changes when subjects with different distributions of ventilation and lung diffusing capacity (Dl) respire in a small bag. The curve [loge CO concentration in the bag] versus [time] will sooner or later appear as a straight line.

Lung diffusing capacity: cyclically and continuously ventilated closed systems

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1965
In previous communications, distribution of ventilation and lung diffusing capacity (Dl) were calculated from changes occurring in N2 and CO concentrations when a subject, whose lungs contained atmospheric air at the beginning of the experiment, respired in a spirometer containing oxygen and a little CO.

Diffusing lung capacity (DLCO) in cured asthmatic children

1998
High percentage of uncured asthmatic children have the increased diffusion lung capacity (DLCO). One of the explanations is that asthma as a chronic inflammatory disorder of airways, by increasing the permeability of alveolocapillary membrane, can cause the increase of diffusion lung capacity.

Pulmonary Diffusion Capacity in Lung Diseases.

2004
In emphysema, for exemple, the division betwween the alveoli break down, producing larger lung spaces. This destruction of lung tissue reduces the springiness of the lungs. The lungs becomes more compliant, a small change in pressure produces a larger than normal change in the volume. While at first glance this would appear to make it easier to breathe,

Lung Function Testing, Spirometry, Diffusion Capacity and Interpretation

2014
Lung function covers several physiological measures of respiratory function and structure. Ventilation, distribution of ventilation, gas diffusion, and lung perfusion are the most common terms.
