Critical evaluation of the Global DOTS Expansion Plan

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2007
The development of the DOTS Expansion Plan has been a milestone in tuberculosis (TB) control at the global and national levels. Key challenges that remain are overcoming the weakness of a strategy built on case management, sustaining commitment ...

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

Ubiquitination of transcription factors in cancer: unveiling therapeutic potential

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In cancer, dysregulated ubiquitination of transcription factors contributes to the uncontrolled growth and survival characteristics of tumors. Tumor suppressors are degraded by aberrant ubiquitination, or oncogenic transcription factors gain stability through ubiquitination, thereby promoting tumorigenesis.

Hepatic ABCG5/G8 overexpression reduces apoB-lipoproteins and atherosclerosis when cholesterol absorption is inhibited

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2007
We previously reported that liver-specific overexpression of ABCG5/G8 in mice is not atheroprotective, suggesting that increased biliary cholesterol secretion must be coupled with decreased intestinal cholesterol absorption to increase net sterol loss ...

Automated diagnosis of lung diseases using vision transformer: a comparative study on chest x-ray classification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Lung disease is a significant health issue, particularly in children and elderly individuals. It often results from lung infections and is one of the leading causes of mortality in children. Globally, lung-related diseases claim many lives each year, making early and accurate diagnoses crucial.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

FAM136A depletion induces mitochondrial stress and reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
FAM136A depletion upregulated ROS production, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ) and ATP production, and upregulated expression of PCK1, PCK2, HMGCS1, and HMGCS2. The expression of both TOMM22 and TOMM20 was also upregulated. FAM136A depletion reduced HCCS that produce holocytochrome c by combining heme to apocytochrome c, and reduced the ...
