A Race-neutral Approach to the Interpretation of Lung Function Measurements.

American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2022
RATIONALE The use of self-reported race/ethnicity to interpret lung function measurements has historically assumed that the observed differences in lung function between racial and ethnic group were due to thoracic cavity size differences relative to ...

Lung Function in Divers

2013
Correct lung function is indispensible to perform work underwater. Thus, spirometric tests of lung function remain an important element in the process of selecting candidates for professional diving. Studies conducted in the population of divers identified the phenomenon called 'large lungs', which is often associated with spirometric indices ...

Factors Affecting Lung Function: A Review of the Literature

Archivos de Bronconeumologia, 2018
Lung function reference values are traditionally based on anthropometric factors, such as weight, height, sex, and age. FVC and FEV1 decline with age, while volumes and capacities, such as RV and FRC, increase.

Lung function after pertussis

Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 1987
AbstractThe relationship between pertussis infection and subsequent abnormalities of pulmonary function is not clear. Thirty subjects (16 male, 14 female) aged 14.3 years (s.e.m.= 1.9) were studied who had been hospitalized with culture‐proven pertussis when less than 6 months of age.

Assessing Regional Lung Function

Thoracic Surgery Clinics, 2008
The assessment of regional lung function to predict postoperative function is integral to preoperative evaluation of pulmonary resection candidates who have impaired lung function. The four validated ways are: anatomic calculation, split radionucleotide perfusion scanning with single photon emission CT (SPECT), quantitative CT scanning, and dynamic ...

Lung function in silicosis

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1992
In order to assess the effect of silicosis on lung function, 61 gold miners with radiological silicosis were compared with 61 controls. Each pair was matched for age, dust exposure, and smoking habits. A full range of lung function tests was performed, and with two exceptions the results showed no significant differences between the two groups.

Tussometry and lung function

Clinical Otolaryngology, 1994
The tussometric parameter peak value time (PVT) has been proposed as an objective measure of laryngeal function. Whether the lower respiratory tract function influences its value is, however, unknown. This study investigates the relationship between lung function parameters forced expiratory volume in 1 second, vital capacity, peak expiratory flow rate,

Lung function in shock

The American Journal of Surgery, 1965
Abstract Ventilatory Mechanics . In acute hypovolemic shock the lung is more compliant if intermittently inflated. Resistance usually falls. After endotoxin administration the lung is less compliant and resistance rises. The effect is of short duration in both types of shock.

[Lung function].

Der Radiologe, 2009
The term lung function is often restricted to the assessment of volume time curves measured at the mouth. Spirometry includes the assessment of lung volumes which can be mobilised with the corresponding flow-volume curves. In addition, lung volumes that can not be mobilised, such as the residual volume, or only partially as FRC and TLC can be measured ...
