Errors in the Diagnosis of Lung Neoplasms

2012
Imaging diagnosis of lung cancer frequently occurs in the context of screening. In other cases, nodules may be detected on a routine CT scan or chest radiograph in asymptomatic patients. These tumors, which tend to be smaller at diagnosis, are referred to as central or peripheral as they have not spread beyond their local confines.

Neuroendocrine Cells and Neoplasms of the Lung

1990
The epithelial cells and presumably endocrine cells of the bronchopulmonary tract are derived from the primitive esophagus. The endocrine cells of the bronchopulomanary tract therefore are of endodermal origin (34). Although earlier proposals favored a neural crest origin (29), experimental evidence failed to support this hypothesis (2,11,22).
