Higher order organizational features can distinguish protein interaction networks of disease classes: a case study of neoplasms and neurological diseases [PDF]
Neoplasms (NPs) and neurological diseases and disorders (NDDs) are amongst the major classes of diseases underlying deaths of a disproportionate number of people worldwide. To determine if there exist some distinctive features in the local wiring patterns of protein interactions emerging at the onset of a disease belonging to either of these two ...

Updates on lung neuroendocrine neoplasm classification
Lung neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a heterogeneous group of pulmonary neoplasms showing different morphological patterns and clinical and biological characteristics. The World Health Organisation (WHO) classification of lung NENs has been recently updated as part of the broader attempt to uniform the classification of NENs.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the lung in pregnancy mimicking carcinoid tumor
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMT) are uncommon neoplasms of the lung in adults. They constitute less than 1% of all lung neoplasms and usually present as parenchymal masses. Diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion.

Lung segmentation on chest x-ray images in patients with severe abnormal findings using deep learning [PDF]
Rationale and objectives: Several studies have evaluated the usefulness of deep learning for lung segmentation using chest x-ray (CXR) images with small- or medium-sized abnormal findings. Here, we built a database including both CXR images with severe abnormalities and experts' lung segmentation results, and aimed to evaluate our network's efficacy in

A Hierarchical Transformer Encoder to Improve Entire Neoplasm Segmentation on Whole Slide Image of Hepatocellular Carcinoma [PDF]
In digital histopathology, entire neoplasm segmentation on Whole Slide Image (WSI) of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) plays an important role, especially as a preprocessing filter to automatically exclude healthy tissue, in histological molecular correlations mining and other downstream histopathological tasks.

Histoplasmosis mimicking primary lung neoplasm [PDF]
A 70-year-old man, ex-smoker with a 3-pack-year smoking history, presented with a 5-week history of persistent cough. There were no positive findings on clinical examination. The patient's chest X-ray showed a nodular density in the right lung, initially thought to be malignant.

In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.
