Optimized micro‐sized cell sphere‐matrix niche co‐aggregates promote efficient oral and craniomaxillofacial bone regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The construct of cell‐niche co‐aggregates (GelMA‐SHED sphere‐DDMPs) promotes cranial and periodontal bone regeneration and ensures angiogenic‐osteogenic coupling by downregulating miR‐34c‐5p to enhance the expression of NOTCH1 and its intracellular domain (NICD).

Multifunctional polycaprolactone‐based composite fibers with icariin and glutathione for effective repair of critical‐sized bone defects

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A multifunctional PCL‐based scaffold co‐delivering Icariin and Glutathione synergistically enhances osteogenesis, angiogenesis, and oxidative stress resistance, achieving near‐complete repair of critical‐sized bone defects in vivo. This cell‐free platform represents a promising strategy for accelerated bone regeneration.

Nacre‐inspired layered composite with excellent mechanical support and osteogenic potential for cervical interbody cage

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The cervical interbody cage needs to take both biomechanical and biological requirements into account. Here, a new‐style degradable, multicomponent, and bioinspired nacre‐like cervical interbody cage composite, which exhibits promising mechanical‐support‐related behavior and osteogenesis‐related potential, is designed and prepared.

Segmentation of Lung Lobes and Nodules in CT Images

open access: yesSignal & Image Processing : An International Journal, 2010
The objective of this paper is to develop a segmentation system in order to assist the surgeons to remove the portion of lung for the treatment of certain illness such as lung cancer, and tumours. The fissures of lung lobes are not seen by naked eyes in low dose CT image, there is a proposal for automatic segmentation system. The lung lobes and nodules

Segmentation of lung nodule in CT data using active contour model and Fuzzy C-mean clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this paper was to develop a region based active contour model and Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) technique for segmentation of lung nodules. Ultimately, detection and assisted diagnosis of nodules at earlier stage increase the mortality rate.

Hyperbranched poly‐L‐lysine surface‐engineered bioprosthetic heart valves with anti‐calcification, anti‐infection, and durability

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The challenges of bioprosthetic heart valves (BHV) with respect to calcification, infection, and poor durability are tackled by surface engineering of hyperbranched poly‐L‐lysine (HBPL), providing a translational solution to improve long‐term valve performance.

Adipokinetic hormone enhances nodule formation and phenoloxidase activation in adult locusts injected with bacterial lipopolysaccharide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Interactions between the locust endocrine and immune systems have been studied in vivo in relation to nodule formation and activation of the prophenoloxidase cascade in the haemolymph.

Calcified Plaque Detachment: Alternative Calcified Plaque Modification After Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Calcified plaque (CP) detachment (CD) and calcium fracture (CF) can occur following coronary intravascular lithotripsy (IVL). The extent to which CF alone facilitates stent expansion during CP modification with IVL remains unclear. Aims This study aimed to investigate the clinical implications of IVL‐induced CD.

Coronary Perforation During Excimer Laser Angioplasty in a Patient With Prior Thoracic Radiotherapy

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Management of heavily calcified coronary lesions remains challenging despite advances in plaque‐modifying technologies. Excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) is an effective adjunctive strategy with a low risk of no‐reflow. Case Summary A 75‐year‐old woman with non–ST‐segment elevation acute coronary syndrome and severe left ...
